THE PSYCHOLOGY OF CAT PEOPLE vs DOG PEOPLE

In 2018, over 470 million people had dogs kept as their pets, and over 75 million people had cats as their pets. The kind of animal a person chooses, can reveal a lot about her or his personality. During a study, fifteen percent people said they disliked cats, and only two percent of the people said they disliked dogs. But, I think its unfair when people boast about hating an entire specie that is a part of many families and loved by many, as well. Based on my observations throughout the years and some research, I've come up with some personality differences between cat people and dog people.

CAT PEOPLE

  • Cat owners are mostly introverts and are less likely to socialize. These people are more chill and slow than the dog people. They value their boundaries a lot, and they don't like it when someone oversteps their boundaries. They often want to be on their own most of the day and occasionally would they want to be interactive.
  • Just like most cats, they have their specific time of the day when they want to be playful or need affection. Otherwise, they like to be independent. I, personally, am a cat person and I generally don't like it when a dog jumps on me, not let me eat or try to get my attention.
  • They don't like to train or explain simple things to an animal or a person.
  • They are mostly quite and does not like loud noises, which is also the reason why most cat people find the barking of a dog very irritating.
  • They are picky. Unlike dogs, cats wouldn't interact with you unless and until they're interested, which is the same with cat people. They don't like doing something they are forced to do or something they simply don't want to do.
  • They value consent before affection. For example, dogs prefer immediate cuddles and warm hugs when you see them, whether the cats won't show a lot of interaction before they see you asking for it or when they actually want to.
  • These people are relatively low in dominance.
  • Most of these people are "thinkers". They are intelligent and open minded.

DOG PEOPLE

  • Dog people are generally extroverted, those who like socializing, making new friends or meeting new people. Generally, these people are very playful, quick, interactive and energetic. They can also get easily bored on their own.
  • They need affection most of the times and want to feel loved and cared for. For example, a dog will act excited when he see someone new or see someone who is coming towards him, whether a cat wouldn't show the same response.
  • They like getting attention. They always want to feel heard and want others to know that they have their backs.
  • They don't like to be around quite people as they won't feel very heard. Which is also why it is very easy for dog people to hate cats or even cat people.
  • Unlike cat people, these people always want to engage in different activities and plays.
  • They are more emotionally supportive, as they do not value space or boundaries like the cat people do.
  • Though they love other beings indiscriminately, they remain loyal.
